Ouch!

Hi

Here is a quick picture of my friend Lee Maunder showing us all how NOT to tie a hook.

This photo was taken while Lee was sat in Southampton General Hospital waiting for a surgeon (not a Sturgeon!) to unhook him!

Apparently Lee was wetting the knot in his mouth when he accidentally dropped the lead and the rest is history.

Incidentally the hook was a 1/0 Kamasan chemically sharpened B940 and is available from Bells Of Hythe for only £1.20 per pack! :  )

We now have our full range of 2011 tide table books in store.

We sell 3 different types:

The ABP Official Tide Tables.

And The Wessex Region Tide Tables.

These tide tables are an essential part of any sea anglers set up and would make a fantastic stocking filler at Christmas.

It's Cod Soup Out There!

Hi

Sorry I have not posted for a while, I have been busy in the shop making it look a bit more up to date.

I received an email from one of my friends Ben Whitlock telling me how he'd had the best session of his life out with Rob Wallis on his private boat "The Orcadia"

Without further ado here is the email....you will not believe your eyes.

 ****************************************************
Hi Alan.
Actual bait in the water time was about 18 hours, there was no particular bait that caught best, nor state of tide or day or night just seemed like they were having it any which way.

I had big squid baits out and smallish rag baits out and both took mixed bags, i had the Bass on big squid baits and took the biggest Cod to Ragworm on a 2/0 and 20lb snood, that was an interesting fight i can tell you!

Our location was East Lepe Buoy, in about 30ft of water. Along with the Cod we also had a small strap Conger.

Here are the fish sizes: 21lb 6oz Cod, 19 lb 4oz Cod, 19lb Cod, 18lb 2oz Cod, 18lb 8oz Cod, 14lb +16lb Cod, 2.5lb Pout, 10lb 10oz Thornback Ray.

Also caught were 4 Cod between 2lb and 7lb, bass to 3lb and bags of Whiting to 1.5lb and the usual Doggfish.

All the fish were caught on your shops bait.
Cheers
Ben Whitlock

Live Yellow Tail Black Lug.

Hi

We have now found a good supplier for Yellow Tail Kent Black Lug. We are taking orders 1 week in advanced to make sure that the bait is here on time for your trip.

We charge £4 for 10 worms and we guarantee that the bait is fresh and large!

New Conoflex Jedi Flattie Beach Rod.

 Hi Everyone.

I am proud to announce the release of my new latest product.
The Conoflex Jedi Flattie rod.

It has been designed to be lighter and slightly thinner than the original Flattie Fanatic, but not lose any of the quality. It is £30 cheaper than the Flattie Fanatic and retails for £120. Having used the Flattie Fanatic rod I believe it is one of the best short range beech rods on the market and also fishes well from any pier.

The rod is 11’ long (3m 35cm) and breaks down in the middle creating two nearly equal lengths. The tip section is 66” (1m 68cm) in length and the butt is 71” (1m 80cm)

Like the original Flattie Fanatic the Jedi Flattie is able to cast 2-4oz of lead, that is it’s optimal amount but I fish mine with 5ozs of lead from the pier and have never had a problem. It is perfect for Flounder and Bass but also fishes well for any smaller species and you can use a multiplier or fixed spool reel on it.

To make sure this lightweight rod is strong enough for its purpose we have had the butt section re-enforced with a long section of whipping 13cm (5 ¼”) in length!! Strong enough for any style of fishing.

The tip has a white reflective paint on it that has been varnished over for an immaculate finish.

All of the eyes on this rod are official Fuji eyes.

The reel seat is also an official Fuji product.

This is the fifth rod that I have designed and I have to admit I am very proud of this one and really happy with the price that I can sell it at.

Many Thanks.

More Captures Aboard Geoff Semple’s Lazy Daze.

Today I had a visit from Geoff Semple. Geoff came to the shop armed with his camera loaded with pictures from his latest boat trip out.
We start off with local customer Chris Purdie who landed this pristine 12lb Cod, 2 miles off the back of the needles using a combination of Squid and Cuttlefish as bait.
As you can see that fish is in mint condition and looks great in this picture.

Next we have another local angler Matt Purdie, Matt is making a bit of a name for himself recently because of his captures. This first fish is a stunning 8lb Bass again caught from a mark 2 miles off the Needles. The Bass fell to a 7/0 hook baited with a whole Squid originally designed to catch a Cod but as you can imagine Matt was not complaining when this beauty came up!

Finally we see Matt with his target species, a fantastic 14lb Cod. The fish fell to a Cuttlefish and Squid bait combo and after a short fight the fish was safe in the net. This fish was also caught on Geoff’s 2 mile mark.

Matt seems to be turning into a very successful angler and his skipper Geoff puts it down to his concentration levels while fishing. Matt also uses quite soft rods and this could be the answer when trying to catch fish that drop baits when they feel any tension.
Geoff is now booked for 8 days straight and is looking forward to some more good catches. I have asked him for the pictures of the fish so that I can put them straight on here for you.
I do like Geoff’s reports because the pictures are always a very good quality and look great on the site.

(P.S. You must remember that if you click on any of the pictures on our blog they will open up and you can view them full size)

Many Thanks.
