Basic Complicated Carp Rig - By George West.

 Hi Folks.

Here is a step by step guide on how to create the safe and effective “Basic Complicated Carp Rig” made famous by Steve Renyard. In this feature you will see an itemised list of the tackle that you will need and also how to tie it.

This is the tackle you will need to make this rig.

Tackle List:

Korda 2oz lead
Korda IQ2 15lb line
Korda Tail Rubbers
Korda Ring Swivels
Korda Lead Clips
ESP Stiff Rigger hooks
Kryston Lead putty
Clear fluorocarbon leader.

First, cut 12” of IQ2 line and tie a small loop in the end then attach one of the baits you are going to use with a Korda hair stop.

Attaching the boilie to the loop will make it easy for you to tie the hair the correct length. Next wrap three turns of line around the shank of the hook.

Then pull the boilie back towards the eye of the hook and continue wrapping the loops of line around the hook about another 5 times.

This will stand the hair out at a sharp angle as opposed to keeping it in line with the hook thus enabling a great hooking angle. It is this trick that gives the rig its name.

To finish off the rig you then tie a long loop in the end of the rig so that you can attach it easily to your swivel. This will also allow you to to pull the rig through a PVA bag or stick mix.

Now that the rig is finished you can choose how you want to get it out there, I like to use the Korda safety rig system as it is very safe and very effective.

For the ultimate presentation I do not use tubing and leadcore, I like to use a Fluorocarbon leader and weight it down every foot with Kryston heavy metal.

Here is one of many fish that I landed on this rig. The hatchet Pond lake record Common Carp weighing a whacking 31lb 8ozs.
