The Flounders Are Here.

Hythe Reclaimed land has seen the first wave of Flounders this year with some very nice sized ones coming in already.

Shop regular Brendan Jones and his girlfriend Lauren Hackett managed 2 very good fish yesterday with the biggest one (caught by Lauren) weighing nearly 2 1/2lb and the second one not too far behind that.

The couple fished from the side of Hythe Marina off of the rocks just before the red gate of the reclaimed land.
Brendan told me they used long flowing traces on a running rig with small hooks and small leads to catch the fish and a large clump of Ragworm was the killer bait in the day.

The pair started to catch the fish on the run-off and the bites were coming thick and fast. If they had longer to fish he assures me they would have caught more fish but unfortunately time was not on their side and they had to leave.

 Well done guys.

The Fish Are Here!!

Over the last week the sea fishing along the south coast has really taken off! Shop regular and bells Of Hythe Sponsored Angler Steve ‘Perez’ Perry has seen at least a douzen species beached over the last week and some of the fish have been excellent specimens.

Steve has seen a lot of good Sole over the last week and they have all fallen to a 2 hook flapper with smaller hooks on cast into the surf (30 yards) The Sole have an appetite for our fresh Dungeness Black Lugworm.

Steve has also seen Plaice fall to this method but they are being caught at 70 yards range.

Steve also managed a bonus fish from Chesil beach last week in the form of a Red Mullet. The Mullet came to a 2 hook flapper rig fished with Ragworm.

Another shop regular Sam Quilliam has also been on the fish this week with one spectacular catch in particular. Sam managed some Sole and Codling also on our black lugworm.

The on a trip to Chesil he also had this 44lb shore caught Conger!

This fish was caught when Sam originally hooked a Pout on a small rig, then as Sam reeled in the fish the rod hooped over and all hell let loose! The Conger took the Pout on its way in and after a great fight Sam (with the help of Steve Perry) managed to beach the fish.

Another shop regular and bait supplier Darren Mills had a good fish this week. Darren who fished Chesil managed this nice 5lb 6oz bass at range.
